LITHIUM BATTERY REPAIR
Diagnosis, internal inspection and restoration of a 12V LiFePO4 battery showing battery-monitoring and electrical-system faults.
Battery warning and electrical faults.
The Porsche Cayenne presented with a battery warning message and stored faults relating to the 12V battery-monitoring system.
The instrument cluster displayed “Battery low — Inspection necessary”. Further diagnostic information showed faults including battery monitoring with no function, PVTS self-test failed and backup battery discharged.

Faults confirmed in the battery-monitoring system.
Diagnostic testing was used to confirm the warning was associated with the 12V battery system before the battery assembly was removed for specialist inspection.

12V LiFePO4 battery.
The battery shown is rated at 60.0 Ah / 792 Wh, with a nominal voltage of 13.2 V and maximum voltage of 14.8 V.

Battery opened for specialist assessment.
The battery was opened to allow inspection of its internal electronics and battery-management components instead of automatically replacing the complete assembly.

“Battery low — Inspection necessary”.
This type of warning does not automatically mean the complete lithium-ion battery must be replaced. Correct diagnosis determines whether repair or restoration is technically possible.
DON’T REPLACE IT
BEFORE WE TEST IT.
A Porsche 12V lithium-ion battery fault does not always require complete battery replacement. Where technically possible, specialist diagnosis and restoration may offer a more cost-effective solution.
Battery restored instead of automatically replaced.
Following diagnosis and internal assessment, the battery could be restored. This avoided unnecessary replacement of the complete battery assembly.
